An important event happened in my life - I came to Bodhgaya and met Ranjan. He invited me to visit the Gyan Jyoty school. I was very surprised to see how much can be done just with donations, without any other funding. With the hands of these kind-hearted people, real miracles came to life: children from poor families and orphans receive education with modern textbooks, families receive help, water pumps are built in remote places. I felt like I was accepted in the family, despite the fact that I'm literally from the other side of the planet :) I wish this project further success and hope that more people would know about it soon!

I volunteered teaching English at Gyan jyoty School during a pilgrimage to Bodhgaya at the end of 2019. We sang songs, played games, improved the children's use of English grammar and even developed their writing skills over a three hour non-stop session during which they never tired of learning more with everyone participating joyfully. I was humbled by just how much these children value their education. Please do support this project and be part of the Gyan Jyoty family!

This school and organization are a light of hope for so many people in Bodhgaya and the surrounding villages who otherwise have no place else to turn. I hope that you can go in person to see the faces of the children who inspired me and my family with their humility, smiles and sincere gratitude... and can help support them and their unsaid mission to make sure everyone in their community, regardless of their current economic, social and educational status, knows they matter. That is the hard and tireless work of Ranjan, Brajesh and all the others, and is their gift to all of us.

I have worked for 6 weeks as a volunteer teacher at this school from late October 2024 until early December 2024. My experience at the school has entirely been a positive one and I hope to come back here again. The teachers are all warm and welcoming, and the children are full of joy and curiosity and have such a kindness in their hearts. Since I have been here, I have seen warm jumpers, shoes and various textbooks given to the children through donations. In conversations with the founder, I have heard about plans to expand the school and develop it further. If anyone reading this has any questions or is curious to know more about this trust, I will be happy to answer them as best as I can. Please contact me by email alicework64@outlook.com with any questions.

Hi, I met Ranjan and Gyanjyoty during a Buddhist pilgrimage in 2017. I was impressed to see how well the school was functioning despite having very limited funding. Ranjan said that they really needed a water filter to provide the schoolchildren and teachers with fresh water. Back in Sweden, I started a Facebook group called 'Gyanjyoti Sponsorer', and it was quite easy to raise the money. Over the years, we have raised money many times, and people have happily given for this good cause, knowing that I could show them the effect it has on the children. Recently, Ranjan has enabled me to support a small school for blind children that receives no state funding for food, clothing or study materials. Ranjan is a fantastic person who facilitates the trust in an excellent way. I would highly recommend this project to anyone who wants to support something that will make a real difference to the world. Metta from Achaladaya (Member of Triratna Buddhist Order)

We visited this amazing school for just a few hours but immediately felt the positive energy and compassion which it generates. The children appear very happy and playful. They were very natural. The teachers clearly have much joy and the children interact with them so easily and naturally. It was very beautiful to see. This is clearly a grassroots NGO which needs ongoing funding to continue providing the amazing level of care to the local community as well as the school. The Principal, Ranjan spoke to us in a way which felt very honest. He shared his story with us and told us about the work which they do in the school and the local community. This feels like a very hard working group of people who want to make other people’s lives safer, kinder and better. I am not someone who is naturally trusting of charities but I can honestly say that this entire school, the children, the teachers and Ranjan radiate good vibes.

We visited this school initially for a few hours and I returned on another day to join some classes. I was really pleased to see the excellent relationships and learning that was evident in all three classes. The teachers seemed happy and positive and we're clear role models for the children. The children are encouraged to work together and support one another's learning. When I taught them some new English words, the class of 7/8 year olds had fun in being tested. They also took delight in learning some new maths. Even the younger children of 4/5 were clearly positive and committed to learning as were the 11/12 year olds. As a small NGO the staff achieve an enormous amount with limited resources. I had seen the minutes of meetings and some of the accounts for much needed text books and other materials. I am really looking forward to developing an ongoing supportive relationship and hope to raise funds for a specific project.
